Brushing your teeth, twice a day, doing mouthwash gargling everyday, flossing everyday...and yet.... having gum problems, decay on teeth. Why? This may be on many minds.
Let me share with you something basic and important points..
Our mind work great, and learn to trust it. When you are brushing your teeth, think of the nice, white teeth that you want, don't ponder on the decay that you see, the yellowish colouring of your teeth..there's always a solution... what are Dentists for, right? ;)
Basic rules before and after brushing:
- SIZE: Get a tooth brush which is suitable for your mouth - i.e. if you are an adult but your mouth is small or maybe you have difficulty in opening mouth for some reasons, please help yourself by getting the small tooth brush, it's fine to use the kid's toothbrush too.
- BRISTLES: Use the soft bristle toothbrush. Please give love to those lovely gums, they need care and pampering! i.e. Oral B has been a leading brand, they have good extra soft toothbrushes.
- CHARACTER: Some of you may have difficulty in brushing your back teeth (Molars what Dentist call). Always lightly brush in circular motion on gums and teeth. REMEMBER: Be gentle on them.
- TONGUE: Brushing your tongue is very important! Most of the debris is actually from your tongue that can actually cause decay. You can use, tongue scraper (esp. for tough debris on tongue) if you prefer, otherwise, toothbrush is good too. Make sure your tongue is nice and pink after brushing.
- FLOSS: Floss your teeth after every meal if possible, or after brushing teeth, to remove food debris from between your teeth. From case studies that's been done, many have interproximal tooth decays. So, flossing is a very helpful tool.
- MOUTHWASH: It is important that you use the right mouthwash. Use alcohol free base, as it does not dry the mouth afterwards. With 3/4th of the bottle cap which is enough to rinse your mouth.Rinse with mouthwash after brushing and flossing. It makes a big difference! You can also simply use salt with Luke warm water. It does a magic to your throat and kills nasty bacteria.
- WHITENING: There are many ways of whitening teeth these days, you may have come across on youtube. You can use banana skin, strawberry with bicarbonate soda, or simply use a teeth whitening product which has a fast and lasting effect for a WHITER teeth.
- WATER: Drink plenty of water. Especially, after drinking coffee, tea or wine because they stain teeth. Rinse mouth after meals and beverages. It reduces the chances of staining your beautiful teeth.
- VITAMINS: Well, this is extremely important. Take multivitamins DAILY! With your busy life, you may forget to include fruits and other important vegetables in your meal, so, simply pop a multivitamin tablet once a day. Simple as that!
- EXERCISE: Simple exercises in the morning, like brisk walking, yoga, makes the difference in your health. Healthy body, gives you healthy teeth and gums too. Did you know, your body inner systems impacts on your mouth like a projector ;)
- GRATITUDE: Always be grateful for everything that you have. You are LUCKY!
